A coffee object reduced to red, clay, line, and removal. The cup, lettering, shading, and APÁ mark are cut directly through the painted surface rather than drawn on top.

The 12-inch square format lets the work sit naturally inside a kitchen, coffee bar, dining room, or other lived-in space without losing its presence as an original object.
Material / removal
Made by taking away.
The clay tile begins as a physical surface. Red paint creates a skin over it. A rotary carving tool then cuts through that skin, turning removal into line, shade, lettering, and image.
The uneven pressure, scratched shading, and small irregularities are left visible. They are evidence of the hand and of the material underneath the image.
